ABOUT THE ARTIST

Anny Arias is a Boston-based abstract painter. Born and raised in Dorchester, she draws much of her inspiration from the beauty of the city, its deep culture and history and the chaos that comes with the changing landscape. Her defined style evokes a sense of controlled chaos in a limited space. Arias’ art is characterized by a bold use of color and a focus on the interplay between color scales. In her compositions, lines and rectangles play a key role, serving as both structural elements and expressive tools.
Her use of simple geometric shapes to define space characterizes the unique style she is drawn to. Her work explores the interplay between negative and positive space, using color and form to create visual tension and balance. Manipulating color, texture and composition, her pieces awaken the emotions she intends to reveal.
Pattern is an important element in Arias' art. These patterns help to unify the composition and add an extra layer of complexity. By carefully manipulating the direction of the brush strokes and spatula strikes, she creates compositions that invite the viewer to explore the extreme movement. Her work explores the interplay between negative and positive space, using color and form to create visual tension and balance.
